Friday 20 July 2018
First national concert.
The title of the album as well as being a tribute, is already a declaration of intent: Pas de Géant is in fact the literal translation of Giant Steps, legendary John Coltrane standard of 1959.
In the album Pas de Géant Camille Bertault transforms the virtuosity of the saxophone of Coltrane in a phenomenal and liberating vocal performance, enchanting us with the amazing song Là où tu vas, structured on a cultured and witty text, simple and at the same time provocative.
Camille’s potential singing, with its sweet, free and unbridled style, brings with it freshness notes in the jazz universe in a captivating way: in fact, it is a very personal musical style made of rhythms and sparkling notes, but above all words that, like charades, are reflected in his light-hearted lyrics. The musical passion of Camille stands out note by note on the background of his profound classical and jazz culture.
“I wanted a record that reflected myself, not just a musical genre.” The complexity of Camille Bertault’s style is due to the diversity of interests and attitudes, not necessarily related to music, which have marked her artistic life.
