First national concert.
After the sound of the silent films of Buster Keaton and after the wonderful work of harmonic elaboration in direct contact with the images of the documentary “The great flood” on the flood of the Mississippi of the ’20s, Bill Frisell, guitarist excellent innovator of the conception aesthetic, returns with this “When You Wish Upon A Star” to another project dedicated to cinema. This time, however, the path is reverse, because it is from the music and not from the images that we start to reach the re-enactment of some movies of the great American cinema of the past. A long rundown crosses the original music of those films, where the memory is viaticum between images and music, in a nostalgic synaesthesia.
When you want to star and Moon river are part of the history of the cinema but have also had a follow-up what standards in music and had already been played by Frisell in his previous album made with the singer Petra Haden, daughter of the late double bass Charlie , which is present with its delicate manner even in almost all traces of this work of authentic style. Frisell’s musical aesthetic moves like a camera inside the images and detects the angles of a seemingly simple harmony that seems now forgotten.
